More about Lee College STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

The STEM Learning Center is located in the Student Center at Lee College.

Over the five years of the HSI (Hispanic Serving Institution) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) grant, Lee will transform STEM education at the college and create more robust articulation agreements with four-year institutions. The STEM project is multi-faceted, but serves one common purpose – student success in STEM courses of study.

Priorities of Lee College HSI STEM Grant:

1. To increase the number of Hispanic and other low-income students attaining degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and

2. To develop transfer and articulation agreements between Lee College and four-year institution of higher education in STEM fields.

With the award of this grant, Lee College is developing core competencies, skills and passion for and among our students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, through multiple vehicles, including the Puente Project Mentoring Program, curriculum enhancements, speakers, technological upgrades, and creation of studio classroom learning environments.

Many STEM students participate in PUENTE Project Mentoring Program. The Program’s strong emphasis on English Instruction, Counseling and Mentoring creates a more fluid path for students to obtain their Associates degree and transfer to four-year institutions.

The PUENTE Project Mentoring Program connects Lee College STEM students with professionals from area companies and organizations who mentor the students throughout the year and help the students both obtain experience and form a network of contacts to bring with them when they move on from Lee College. Because the Lee College STEM students participating in the PUENTE Project Mentoring Program take classes and work closely with each other, they form a bonded group that provides support between these students as they journey through college.

Lee College is a two-year college located in Baytown, Texas with a campus in Huntsville, Texas. Lee College is considered a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
