Leitchfield is the county seat of Grayson County, Kentucky, United States. Leitchfield is a home rule-class city with a population of 6,699 as of the 2010 census.HistoryThe town was named for Major David Leitch, the original owner of the town site. The city was formally incorporated by the state assembly in 1866.GeographyLeitchfield is in the eastern end of the Western Coal Fields in Kentucky and exhibits some karst topography. It is located along the Western Kentucky Parkway at the junction of Kentucky Route 259. U.S. Route 62 intersects Kentucky Route 259 at the middle of town. Leitchfield is situated between Rough River Lake to the north and Nolin River Lake to the south.According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 28.2km2, of which 28.1km2 is land and 0.1km2, or 0.38%, is water.
