More about Lincoln Church of Christ

Who We Are

Churches of Christ seek to restore the church of the first century in modern times. Webster defines the word restore as returning a thing to its original state. It is the aim of churches of Christ to restore the church to its purity and simplicity as revealed in the New Testament.

The Old Testament prophets foretold the establishment of the church (Isaiah 2:2-3; Daniel 2:44). Jesus promised to build His church (Matthew 16:18). The church, according to the apostle Paul was part of God’s eternal purpose (Ephesians 3:8-11).

On the day of Pentecost, AD 33, The Lord’s church was established. We read about the infant church in Acts 2:40-47. Again it is our intent to return the church of today to its original form—it’s work, worship, and service.

Congregational Bio

The Lincoln church of Christ was established in 2000 having our first worship service on July 23 of that year. The city of Lincoln was welcoming the automobile plant being constructed by Honda Motors. The Arab church of Christ, Arab, Alabama, a congregation which believes strongly in evangelism, made plans to plant a congregation in Lincoln.

Before the work could get underway a preacher had to be found who would move to Lincoln and help members of the church establish a new congregation. Mark Martin, who had preached for 14 years in Mississippi and Georgia, was invited by the Arab church of Christ to fill that position. In June of 2000, Mark along with his wife Ramona, and their children, Rebekah, Seth, and Rachel, made the move to Lincoln to assist with this effort.

By July of 2000 a temporary meeting place was secured and the first worship service was Sunday July 23, 2000. Three years later a permanent meeting place was constructed at 760 Patton Chapel Road near the new Drew Middle School and Lincoln High School. Attendance has grown from the twenty-one who were present that first Sunday, to an average of 85 on Sunday morning.

In June of 2014 Erik Harman joined the Lincoln congregation as associate minister. He preaches occasionally, teaches classes primarily for young people and assists with numerous other tasks. He has been and will continue to be a wonderful addition to the Lincoln church of Christ.

It is our plan to serve God faithfully in Lincoln for as many years as we are blessed to live. If you plan to be in Lincoln, Alabama in the future, please visit our services.
