Little Axe Bison Ranch

The American Bison (Buffalo) that once ruled the plains and provided Native Americans with food, homes, clothing, medicine, tools and many other essentials of living, reached near extinction near the end of the 19th century.

Today they are experiencing a comeback as a viable business venture and proving that they can once again give life, health and vitality to the land they occupy and to the people who utilize their meat and other valuable products.

We, the owners of Little Axe Bison Ranch, are excited to be a part of this comeback and able to provide the bison products to people in Oklahoma and surrounding states.

These products will include frozen meat, hides, skulls, and handmade soap. We will also offer tours to educate people about the bison and the health benefits the meat provides.

Bison meat is a small newcomer to the consumers’ array of meats, competing primarily with the All-American favorite, beef. Even though beef is lower priced and more readily available, bison is making headway as consumers become more health conscious and look at value vs. dollar. As with any new food product, people are cautious about trying bison for the first time. Once they try it, most people like it and come back for more, especially as they recognize the improvement in the way they feel.

This business, startup operation 2015, is owned and operated by John Al Little Axe and Teresa Green Ashley. The only other employees are our daughters, Amy, Brittany and Kaylee, our son Osric, eventually our two smallest boys Slayer Dane and Panther Sky who will help with both production and sales.

John grew up on a farm and has considerable experience in managing livestock. Teresa, our Ranch Manager, researches and educates visitors on the benefits of buffalo products. Amy, Brittany, Kaylee and Osric, attend Little Axe and Macomb Schools, have been learning and assisting in the business startup, including fence building, operating equipment as needed and care for the Bison.

The bison business holds exciting possibilities while generating considerable interest and fascination. We are glad to be part of it…
