Calendar
Lessons at the LRMS will be made available beginning August 15, 2014 and ending on May 31, 2015. A two-week break will occur between semesters to allow families the freedom to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

Studio Rules
1. Always respect Mr. Ryder and the studio equipment.
2. Walk in the music studio.
3. Wash hands before lesson, clip fingernails before playing the piano.
4. Wear clean, dry clothes. Avoid coming to lessons directly from athletic activities without changing clothes first.
5. Be punctual.

Practice Time
All students will be required to practice to prepare for the next lesson. Beginners should practice thirty (30) minutes for at least five days a week. Intermediate students should practice forty-five (45) minutes at least five days a week, and advanced students should practice sixty (60) minutes six days a week. Practice time for adult students will be determined by the teacher.
Practice time is to be recorded on a weekly assignment form which the student will bring to each lesson.

Lesson Missed Policy
If a student must miss a lesson at the LRMS, the student must arrange to switch lesson times with another student. Each student will be provided with a complete lesson schedule, which will contain contact numbers for other students. If a switch cannot be made, the lesson is simply missed and will not be made up. Lessons will only be made up in the case of extreme emergencies and only if the teacher is notified by phone or email 24 hours in advance. There will be one make-up date per semester that will occur in December or May.

Lesson Termination
Lessons at the LRMS may only be terminated at the beginning of each month, and then only when the teacher is given a two-week notice that the student is planning to terminate.
The teacher reserves the right to terminate a student’s lesson at any time for behavioral misdemeanors or consistent lack of preparation.

Parent Waiting Room
Parents are expected to stay for the duration of the private lesson. A waiting area is made available in the LRMS for this purpose.

Recitals
The LRMS will host two recitals each year.
The Winter recital will be held in December 2014. Location will be announced at a later time.
The Spring recital will be held in May 2015. Location will be announced at a later time.

Competitions/Assessment
Students will be encouraged to participate in the annual non-competitive AIM auditions sponsored by the Florida State Music Teachers Association (FSMTA).
In addition, students will receive an assessment report from the teacher at the end of each semester. This will allow the student, parents, and teacher to track the student’s progress.

Materials Used
Necessary music materials (books, copies, practice aids, etc.) will be purchased by the teacher and billed to the student.

Safety Concerns
For the safety of both the teacher and the students each lesson will be video recorded. The teacher will keep a digital copy of these videos and parents may request the video of their students’ lesson at any time.

A NOTE TO PARENTS
Parents,
Thank you so much for considering making music a part of your child’s life. I am a firm believer that music is truly for everyone! As a teacher I will strive to do my very best to teach your child everything I know about playing the piano or singing; however, there is only so much I can do on my own.
I need your help for your child’s lessons to be a success. As a beginner, your child will need your help to practice, and I will do my best to make sure that you know how to practice with him or her. If your child is an intermediate or advanced student, you will need to be his or her encourager and “biggest fan.” I will help you know how to do this as well.
I am excited to begin working with you! Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Lucas Ryder
