The Visual Art Department at Lake Washington Institute of Technology serves two of the largest student populations on campus: The Academic Core (general education) and the Multimedia Design and Production Department (MMDP). Students from any LWTECH program can fulfill their Humanities distribution with an art class. Art courses are integral to the MMDP design program, with many of the classes required for a degree or certificate.
The Visual Arts at LWTECH focus on experiential studio-based learning. Creativity and Visual Literacy are crucial especially with the movement towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum. Adding Art to STEM is crucial to create STEAM education.
Courses are designed and taught by professional artists and designers who are actively exhibiting and creating in their respective fields and hold terminal degrees.
Classes are open to all who are interested, from true beginners all the way to professionals looking for dedicated time and space for art making. Classes include:
ART 100 Art Appreciation
ART 102 Design 1
ART 121 Introduction to Drawing
