More about Madison County Juneteenth Organization

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, is a holiday in the United States that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the State of Texas in June 1865.

The Madison County Juneteenth Organization (M.C.J.O.) is a non-profit group that was established in Madison County in July of 1985 to preserve and celebrate the holiday. M.C.J.O. celebrates the 19th of June with a parade, beautiful floats, cowboys and cowgirls, decorated cars and bicycles, etc. A yearly banquet is held to crown Miss Madison County Juneteenth Queen, Teen Princess, and Little Miss and Mr. USA. Community fundraisers such as plate luncheons, and bake sales are held yearly.

M.C.J.O. purchased 13.5 acres of land and constructed a building to be used for special celebrations such as wedding receptions, family reunions, and educational programs to invest in the future of our youth and remind them of the Importance of Juneteenth as Freedom Day.

M.C.J.O. gives scholarships each year to college-bound seniors graduating from Madisonville High School as another way of giving back to the community.
