Manna House Ministries ~ Alexandria, La.

It all started in 1990 when Father Gerard Foley wanted to make an impression on his congregation at St. Frances Cabrini church with his homily about feeding the hungry. "When I was hungry, you gave me food......" (Matthew 25:35) At the end of his homily, he challenged those interested in doing something about it to show up at a meeting to discuss possibilities. After several meetings, much brainstorming, and lots of prayer, Manna House opened its doors on May 1, 1990.
Today Manna House continues to rely on volunteers and donations to keep the ministry going. Manna House gets no financial assistance from the federal, state, or local government, or from any particular church, diocese, or organization. Hot, balanced, nutritious meals are served every day to anyone who walks in the door, no questions asked.
