Marshall Music Co

Marshall Music Company was established in 1948 by Mr. and Mrs. Marshall in a small store at 304 North Washington in downtown Lansing. By the early 1960's the store had a staff of 15 and had moved twice to larger facilities- once to a company owned building in the 200 block of North Washington, and a few years later to a much larger three story building across from the Arbaugh's Department Store on South Washington. While in this location, the company suffered a major fire, which threatened its existence. Thanks to employees, customers, and the faith of our suppliers, the company was able to rebuild and continue an expanded coverage of the Michigan area. During this period of the 60's and 70's, branch stores were established in Flint, Saginaw and East Lansing.

In October of 1978, all Lansing and East Lansing operations were consolidated in one large 26,000 square foot location in the Frandor Shopping Center. The Frandor location was centrally located and provided easy access to freeways to accommodate our expanding statewide coverage. In 1993, land was purchased on the northern perimeter of Frandor Center and our present new building was completed, and made Marshall Music Company one of the largest full-line music stores in the country.

In 1984 we opened a service-center store and warehouse in Gaylord, Michigan, to more easily service the Northern Michigan and Upper Peninsula area. During this period, we also opened a full-line (except pianos and organs) music store in Allen Park, a suburb of Detroit. This store provided access to the seventh largest metropolitan area of the country. In the late 80's, a store was opened in Kalamazoo to better serve the southwest portion of the state. In 1998 we relocated our Kalamazoo store to a new 7,000 square foot facility on Mall Drive in Portage.

In 1995 we opened a store in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This store is located on 28th Street and U.S. 131 - a major high profile location in the second largest Michigan city.

In 1997 we moved our Gaylord store to a 6,000 square foot facility in Traverse City on Airport Road.

In 2003, we opened a store in Troy, and in 2005 we opened a store in West Bloomfield.
