More about Mauro P. Garcia - Funeral Homes, Inc.

Our story begins when owner and founder Mauro P. Garcia, Sr. graduated in 1949 from Commonwealth College of Sciences in Houston, Texas. He became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and began working for Max Martinez Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas. He decided to move to Alice, Texas and with the experience he attained, began working for Walker-Mora Funeral Home.

It was in 1960 when Mauro P. Garcia, Sr. and Mr. Mike Rios became partners and together established the Garcia-Rios Mortuary in San Diego, Texas. Four years later, the partnership was dissolved.

In 1964 Mauro, Sr. and his wife, Ines R. Garcia, established Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. This centralized his services and he began coordinating funerals throughout San Diego, Benavides and Freer, Texas. Business was slow at first, but he increased his amount of services in the years that followed.

In 1971, Mauro P. Garcia, Jr. and his wife, Betty Lou Creager Garcia, joined the family business and began to work alongside his father. Business rapidly grew and later, plans were made to expand and open a second location.

In 1989, Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home of Alice was established and our professionalism for funeral services grew. It was also during this time when Mauro Sr.’s daughter, Maria D. Garcia Aleman, joined the family business.

In 1992, the Mauro P. Garcia Chapel of Benavides was built and to this day still operates in Benavides, Texas.

Sadly, in 1994, Mauro’s beloved wife, Ines, passed away. Even though it was difficult, he continued his traditions of service until his own death in 1998. That same year, the funeral homes and chapel were incorporated into Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc.

On June 6, 2002, at the age of 50 and after battling cancer, Mauro Jr. passed away. Betty Lou, still continues the family tradition of service after 42 years of experience, and still operates the establishments today.

Our reputation in the funeral industry speaks for itself. The communities, for over 49 years, have entrusted us with their loved ones for generations and continue repeating family business with our funeral homes even after the death of our pioneer founders.
