Mayday! Underground Crafts + Art

Our events feature over 70 independent artists and small business from around the Rochester area. Unlike standard craft shows, Mayday! Underground offers shoppers a spectrum of items that put an unconventional spin on traditional art and craft. They focus on modern, hip and trendy items that are completely handmade, coupled with a more urban shopping experience. Included in the merchant lineup are jewelers, soap makers, painters and illustrative artists, ceramicists, fiber crafters, and many more unique artisans. In addition to free admission for all, the first 50 patrons through the door will receive one of Mayday's reusable, limited edition “swag bags” screen printed with artwork by Casey Wright. Each one is filled with artistic contributions from the vendors at the show.

Mayday! Underground was inspired by the “indie” craft movement taking place in larger cities around the country. They take pride in finding local artist who can bring the avant garde, the extraordinary and a dash of bizarre to their unique craft show.

The events are organized by Amanda Preske, Casey Wright, Jessica Goodenbury and Erin Gursslin, Rochestarians and artists themselves. Back in 2009, Amanda and Casey realized that Rochester had a gap in its thriving art scene for non-traditional crafts so they set out to create a show that focuses on it. Since its inception, Mayday! Underground has grown to be the biggest and most attended indie art fair in Rochester and they hope that this year's event will be their most successful to date.
