Another Mexican Restaurant opens in The Colony. But Maza Bar & Grill just might surprise you. Located in the completely renovated location of the old Mi Casa on South Colony, Guadalupe Sifuentes had a different idea in mind. A first-time restaurateur, Sifuentes wanted to bring her love of genuine Tex Mex (along with her Mama’s homemade tamales) to offer fresh, made to order, hand-made Mexican food every day.

Not too shabby Salsa either. Maza entered their family recipe salsa in the 2013 Salsa Shootout at Liberty by the Lake this summer and took home a 2nd place prize on the very first try. They proudly display their Salsa Shootout Winner’s plaque at the entrance. And, if you like Maza’s salsa enough to take home, you can buy it by the pint. There are 10 salsas to choose from as well.

But let’s talk about the food. The secret rub makes Maza’s Brisket Tacos taste like a chunk of heaven but then try it in the Poblano Relleno with the Guajillo (Roja) sauce and it’s all over but the crying. From Mom’s homemade Tamales (she calls them Maza Tamalitos) to the sizzling Fajitas, there’s nothing you won’t like at Maza Bar & Grill.

Ignacio, aka “Natcho”, the bartender blends a traditional Margarita without the standard mix and will even “skinny” a version if you want to save some calories with his signature Maza Mexicano. Natcho’s tasty Cucumber Margarita is made with fresh muddled cucumber and lime; perfect for a hot Texas day.

Here to please, Sifuentes is open 7 days a week from 11am-10pm. Serving Brunch on the weekends too from 11am-3pm, tempt your palate with a little Huevos Rancheros or Chilaquiles Verdes.
