McPherson Church of Christ

Those who worship with the church of Christ soon discover that a warm, friendly atmosphere is more than a goal – it is a present reality. Love for God and for one another is evident by the simple and biblical approach to worship and service. As a congregation, our mission is to glorify God through outreach, serving others, and edifying one another.

The congregation meets to worship on Sunday morning and evening. Bible classes are offered each Sunday morning and Wednesday night for children as well as adults. Classes are designed to instill within each student a love for God and an appreciation for His word as the source of spiritual guidance for daily life. Members meet in small groups and share in a meal and a study of the Bible on the third Sunday evening of each month.

The church is committed to strengthening families and marriages by providing classes and programs for members and the community. Ladies meet for Bible study on Wednesday mornings, except when they get together for breakfast and to make teddy bears for babies born at the hospital and children who visit the emergency room. More than 14,000 bears have been handed out over the past 20 years.

Men meet together for special times of prayer and fellowship. Annual retreats for men and women have proven to be great opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship. A family retreat in Colorado is scheduled for this summer. The church offers free of charge a DVD entitled “In Search of Truth.” We have an active youth program providing young people opportunities to participate in all kinds of faith-building activities. Our third through twelfth-graders participate in a year-round program called “Leadership Training for Christ,” culminating each year with a special convention in Rogers, Arkansas.

The church supports mission works in Brazil, Honduras, and South Africa. Our involvement in Honduras is highlighted by mission trips to that country every other summer. Such trips have included medical, benevolent, and evangelistic missions. Our involvement in benevolence also takes the form of stateside missions when special needs arise closer to home. For four years (2008-2011), members have traveled to Gallup, New Mexico, to place new roofs on buildings at Manuelito Navajo Children’s Home. A group provides roofing for the local Habitat for Humanity house each summer.

Larry Gould and Greg Thomas serve the church as elders. Gary Witcher serves as the minister. Gary & his wife Amy moved here in November of 2009. Ryan McNally, a graduate of McPherson High School and Oklahoma Christian University, serves as the youth minister.
