We are proud to be part of a heath care tradition in the North Country that goes back over 100 years. This building was once the home and medical office of Edward Livingston Trudeau, M.D. a pioneer in the treatment of tuberculosis and founder of the Adirondack Cottage Sanitarium, which then became the Trudeau Sanatorium after Dr. Trudeau's death. Through his efforts, Saranac Lake became established as a center for the highest quality medical care. Today, we continue this tradition by providing a wide range of medical services delivered with caring expertise.

Medical Associates is one of the largest medical groups in the North Country and our patients come from as far away as 100 hundred miles. Our physicians are all board certified in fields such as internal medicine, cardiology and family practice. They are assisted by a highly trained team of physician's assistants, nurses, medical assistants, and office staff whose goal is to provide patients with the best possible health care experience. Many special medical services are also available in house for our patients. With our CLIA-certified office laboratory, we can offer our patients the speed and convenience of doing lab tests at the time of their office visit. In addition, we offer electrocardiograms, 24 hour EKG monitoring, pulmonary (lung) function tests, treadmill exercise tests, carotid artery and leg vein ultra sounds and cardiac echocardiograms.

Medical Associates has incorporated a fully integrated electronic medical records system which improves efficiency and ensures complete patient privacy.

Medical Associates has been certified as a Level 2 Medical Home primary care practice. The concept of the Medical Home represents a new approach to the health care of our patients. This involves a more proactive method of managing your health care, for example earlier identification of possible health problems, reminders for important procedures and appointments and coordinating and following up on referrals to outside providers. Part of this process involves the formation of primary health care teams within Medical Associates. These teams are comprised of your primary care physician, our physician assistants, our nurses and the necessary support staff. Your primary care team will work with you to make decisions and help manage your overall health care. The team is committed to: providing you with a safe environment to talk about your private health concerns; answering your questions and concerns at each appointment to insure you understand your health care needs; coordinating your health care within the practice and with care providers outside of the practice; and informing you of the services offered by the community to support self-care and help you achieve self-management goals and better health outcomes.

Another advance in the medical field is the Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Medical Associates is a member of the Adirondacks ACO, an organization designed to make it easier for doctors and hospitals to work together to keep you healthy and to provide you with the highest quality medical care. The network of providers in the Adirondack ACO currently includes over 400 participating primary and specialty clinicians throughout Franklin, Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, Warren and Washington counties.
