Mercer University Department of Physical Therapy

As an integral part of the College Health Professions, located on the Cecil B. Day Graduate and Professional Campus in Atlanta, Georgia, the Department of Physical Therapy program is pleased to offer programs for professional and post-professional study and an on-site clinic.
The professional program in physical therapy offers the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. This innovative, 8-semester program is a comprehensive entry-level professional education. The inaugural class of 28 students matriculated in August of 2010.

Post-professional programs include residencies, fellowships, and continuing education opportunities for licensed physical therapists. Mercer’s APTA credentialed Residency in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy is a 12-month program and is the first in the state of Georgia associated with a University. Under the leadership of Joe Donnelly, PT, DHS, OCS, director of post-professional education, the first group of 8 residents completed this advanced study of program in December, 2010 and is its fourth cohort is currently in the midst of their residencies. The Residency in Neurologic Physical Therapy, a collaborative with The Shepherd Center began in January 2011.

Mercer Physical Therapy is our on-site practice, connected to our professional and post-professional education programs. Mercer Physical Therapy aims to be a center of clinical excellence providing comprehensive physical therapy services for individuals in the Metro Atlanta area.
