Mesquite Texas City Hall

The City of Mesquite officially incorporated on December 3, 1887. Mesquite was the second community to incorporate (Lancaster was the first) outside of Dallas proper. In the first U.S. Census, which was taken in 1890, Mesquite had a population of 135. As of 2011 the population was approximately 139,870.

"All roads lead to Mesquite" with its location at the crossroads of Interstate 20, 30 and 635, State Highway 352 and U.S. Highway 80. Only 13 miles to downtown Dallas, Mesquite is the eastern gateway to the City of Dallas. Mesquite covers 47 square miles and is surrounded by Garland to the north, Dallas to the west, Lake Ray Hubbard to the northeast, Sunnyvale to the east and Balch Springs to the south.
