Histroy of M.B.T

In 1938, just before World War II there was a separation of membership of Canaan Baptist Church.Dr.Ballou along with a group of members left Canaan and later met for the purpose of organizing another church.

This Church was organized on April 12,1938 and was named Metorpolitan Baptist Tabernacle by Mr.Herman Strong.

Rev.T.L. Ballou was called as the first pastor of Metropolitan and served from 1938 until 1945 when his health failed and reitred.He passed away on June 17,1946.

In 1939 Metropolitan purchased its first building,formerly a old pressing shop operate at 3939 Industrial Ave.The mortgage was burned in 1943.

Rev.E.J. Timmons, who served as the Associate Minister durinh 1945,was elected as pastor January 6,1946.His church motto was
"Enter to Worship,Depart to Serve".

September 18,1949 ground was broken for a new church and the mortgage was burned February 19, 1956.The church was incorporated in 1950,In Septrmber 1955,Rev.Timmons become ill and retiref from the church in 1956.He passed away in 1957.In the lower level the E.J. Timmons Fellowship Hall is named in his memory.

Rev.Sidney D. Edwards became Pastor in May 1957.The church purchased two house across the street and one became the Parsonage.

In 1964 Rev. A.J. Pointer was invited to served as Administrative Assistant. Rev. Edeard offered his resignaton February 12,1967 It was accepted by the church on February 22,1967.

Mertopolitan called Rev. A.J. Pointer as pastor April 19,1967 and he accepted the called as pastor His Church motto is "The Church for Everybody serving the God for Everybody."
