More about Michael Tucker Park

Michael Tucker Park was named in memory of Dr. Michael Tucker, an avid bicyclist who lost his life after being hit by a drunken diver while cycling in Calhoun County.

The park and surrounding property has a unique history. Archaeological evidence suggest that its earliest inhabitants were the Woodland Era Indians who most likely made their home near the confluence of Cave Creek and Cane Creek which both flow through the property. Decades later, the area became known as Holly Farms and was home to Anniston High School's agricultural education center until the mid 1980's. The City of Anniston acquired the property from the School System in the late 1980's and made several improvements to the area to include the construction of the Woodland Park Softball Complex in 1990 (later acquired by Calhoun County) renovations to the Lodge, development of the park in the late 1990's, and the opening of the campground in December 2016.

With its location adjacent to the Chief Ladiga Trail and only 8 miles from the famous Coldwater Mountain Trail System, the park provides an ideal location for out of town cyclist to camp. The area is also perfect for those wanting to camp while visiting our many historic sites and museums or attending specials events and festivals held throughout the year.

The rustic Lodge at Tucker Park provides a great venue for weddings, receptions, camps, meetings, family gatherings and a variety of other functions as well.
