Mid Shore Fresh Start

The Program
A staff member directs case management, assisting the individual in meeting his/her need to move beyond crisis situations, and in availing himself/herself of all compatible community-based services and resources. Such services include but are not limited to: support groups, outpatient substance abuse counseling, relapse prevention, job placement, legal resources, mental health, HIV/AIDS, educational and housing resources.

Within one month, all residents are expected to be employed. Fresh Start residents will pay for room and board based on a sliding scale according to respective incomes. Saving and spending amounts will be mutually determined by Fresh Start and the residents. Savings will be held by Fresh Start with statements issued to residents with each deposit. All savings are returned to residents when they leave Fresh Start.

Classes focusing on the development of life management skills are available. These skills include but are not limited to: directed spending, problem solving, stress management, coping techniques and utilizing alternatives to violence.

Average stay within the program is 4 months to one year. Each participant is expected to make productive use of his/her time through employment, volunteer activities and/or schooling.

As residents approach the end of the program, they will work with a case manager to develop a post-transitional housing plan. In addition to permanent housing the plan will also include a strategy for the maintenance of continued sobriety and good health.
