Mike Garrison - Motorsports Announcer

My name is Mike Garrison. I am your average Midwest American kid (29 to be exact) who grew up in a small town with my mom, dad, sister, and crazy grandma. Do you remember the kid in school who struck out playing tee-ball or got tangled in the soccer net? That was me. Traditional sports were never my strong point, and my parents recognized that an early age. I began racing dirt bikes at the age of 5, and for the next 13 years of my life my entire family and I traveled the country racing week after week. Like any kid, I had a dream of someday being a professional dirt bike racer, making the big money, swarmed by hot chicks, and signing autographs in line at the local McDonalds.

On August 27, 2006, at the age of 18, I attended a local race in preparation for my expert class debut. While trying to make a pass on my best friend for the lead, we collided in mid-air over a jump. We both came crashing to the ground. As best friends we competed to be the better than one another at everything…including crashing. I won this battle as he was un-injured in the crash, whereas I had shattered my spine, collapsed both lungs, suffered severe internal bleeding, and was paralyzed from the chest down.

To many people this sounds like a terribly tragic situation, however, if given the opportunity to travel back in time I wouldn’t change anything about that day or what has happened to me. To this day we are still best friends competing at everything, and often laugh about who technically won the race that day.

I believe that everything in life happens for a reason, and with that being said, I believe when there is no longer a reason for me to be rolling the streets in a wheelchair…THAT is the day I will simply stand up and walk away.

One day while attending a local R/C car event in 2007, the announcer handed me the mic and said, "I'll be back in a few..."

Scared to death I mumbled my way through what was the most important race of the day. From that day forward, I found a love for announcing and public speaking.

Today I travel the country with my wife by my side announcing everything from local R/C car and motocross races to the Monster Energy Cup of Supercross and the ROAR National Championships. When I'm not announcing races you'll most likely find me giving motivational speeches, narrating a wide variety of documentaries, hosting podcasts, and perhaps a little bit of everything in between!
