It was Marinda "Mini" O'Beirne's love of children and her desire to combat child abuse that brought a crisis nursery to central Illinois. Mini was an administrative assistant to an Illinois State Representative when she heard of a crisis nursery in another city. She spent two years investigating, planning and encouraging others to join her crusade against child abuse. Amidst all of her planning, she died of cancer on April 29, 1988. A steering committee carried out Mini's dream and named the Nursery in her honor. The Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery opened May 15, 1989.
