More about Moatball

Moatball began as a game played in a street or a driveway. Out of bounds was an area in the middle of the "court" that had to be hit "over" . . . a "moat" if you will. The game moved out of the street and between two mobile trailers where the net was added. The foam ball allowed for play off the sides of the trailers which later became 8' high walls, and over a period of 20 years the rules were established by the players made up of technicians and performers of the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The game is played daily at the Studios between performances. A second court was established in 2012 in Gainesville Florida with a third court in the planning for the Montverde area.

What makes moatball unique to other racket sports are rules that allow for the continuation of a point following a mis-hit. Also the racquetball racket does not have to be used to return the foam ball. Any body part is considered "live" and frequently an "open hand" or torso return keeps the point going.
Players of pickleball, paddle tennis, or platform tennis will enjoy this game immensely. Racquetball players now have a use for that racket gathering dust in their garages.

The hope is to grow the game. Players as young as 5 and as old as 75 have played moatball with a unanimous vote of support. It is a safe and easy game to learn.
