More about Model "A" Ford Club of Cape Cod

In 1958, the Cape Cod Antique Car Club was the only car club on Cape Cod. Most of it's members were owners of Model "A" Fords, several of whom were also members of the Model "A" Restorers Club of Massachusetts (MARCOM). MARCOM held its meetings off the Cape in North Easton MA, thus requiring the Cape Codders to drive a considerable distance to attend.

These Cape Cod Model "A'ers" decided that it would be a good idea to start a new club on Cape Cod dedicated especially to Model "A" Ford enthusiasts, so they created the Model "A" Ford Club of Cape Cod. In 1962, the Model "A" Ford Club of Cape Cod sought, and was granted affiliation with the Model "A" Ford Club of America as a chapter, and with the Model "A" Restorers Club as a region.

Some of the Club's founding members were Richmond Bell of Wellfleet MA, Don Harding of Mashpee MA, and Bill Westcott of Chatham MA. All are still very active members of the Club today.

Our Club is fortunate to have many dedicated members like these men, who have owned, driven, and maintained Model "A"s not only for years, but for decades. We also have members who are new to the hobby, including one who just bought his first Model "A" in 2016.

We have members who own one Model "A", some who own more than one, one who owns 12 Model "A"s, and a member who owns no Model "A"s at all, but who is still very interested in them.

The Model "A"s owned by Club members run the gamut from all original, unrestored, to award winning restored cars.

Many of our Club's members have a range of knowledge of the Model "A" that is encyclopedic. These more knowledgeable members generously share their expertise with those who still have a lot to learn about the Model "A".

Some Club members do all the mechanical work on their car, while others do none.

Some Club members do long-distance touring in their Model "A", while others stay closer to home.

Today, there are about 60 Club members. Spouses and significant others play an integral and important role in all Club activities.

The essential requirements for a member of the Model "A" Ford Club of Cape Cod are an appreciation of Model "A's", and a desire to see that these great vehicles are preserved so that they can be enjoyed by others, now and far into the future.

Our Club holds monthly business meetings that are followed by a program on various topics of interest concerning the Model "A", an annual picnic, and a holiday brunch. Club members also take part in local car shows and parades, and are often invited to other venues, such as retirement communities, to display their Model "A"s. Each Club member receives a monthly newsletter, containing the minutes of the most recent business meeting, reports on tours and events, a schedule of future events, and various articles of interest to "Model A'ers".

Our Club supports programs that promote youth involvement in the automotive maintenance field and preservation hobby.
