More about Monkey House

The Monkey House is a masonry home. Constructed of cinderblock and full brick aproximately one third of the structure is earth linked and 3.5 levels high, creating an effeicent passively heated and cooled home. Many Fall, Spring and most Summer days require only fans for comfort. Upgraded and effecient radiant heat, provides maximum coziness never sacrificing air quality and family health.
These features combine to make the Monkey House an original sustainable home design. Below are some liinks with additonal information . You will see some info on windows as well. One of the tragedies of the 70's energy crunch was the misconception promoted by government and industry that replacement windows are always a good idea. Herein is recent data showing that the energy differnce does not rise the cost of replacment even when you leave out the real cost of producing "replacement" window or the effect on landfils.

Forced air systems not only push heat out, they provide a medium and vehicle for baterica. The average American forced air home is dryer in the winter than the Sahara Desert. As of 2016 HVAC contractors are recommending budegting complete replacement of heat pump systems every 7 years. (Over $1,000.00 each year) Maintenace on a gas fired radiator heated home is almost nothing and the system heat exchanger/boiler should last decades. i've never had one not last at leat 20 years. I have replace one at 40 years and another at 60 years. The Carbon Footprint implication here is huge.
