Growing up in nearby Jacksonville, Florida, Christopher and Sonya Ashton have always had a love for Saint Augustine and the rich history of the city. After marrying, they decided to move here in 2011 and have never looked back. But, it was their dream to open a small restaurant together in the downtown historic district. They wanted a place that served quality food in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Sonya always called her son her “little monkey†growing up. Wanting to somehow name the restaurant after her son, and combining that with her love of baking (and a slight chocolate addiction), Monkey Ballz Cafe was born.
