The Monmouth Police Department has a full time staff of thirteen sworn officers, two civilians, a part time Community Service Officer, a part time records clerk, and a complement of up to six reserve police officers.
Darrell Tallan has served Monmouth as the Chief of Police for eleven years. He has 25 years of law enforcement experience in the Monmouth/Independence community. Three sergeants assist with management duties by supervising patrol, investigations, and special projects.
Current staffing allows for professional operations in the areas of patrol, crime prevention, investigations, interagency drug enforcement, and an interagency Special Response Team (SRT). One officer is assigned to a detective position working primarily felony investigations, and also serves as a member of the Polk County Major Crimes Team. Another officer is assigned to a detective position on the Polk Interagency Narcotics Team (POINT).
