The Monroe County Educational Center serves students with impairments that are between the ages of 3 and 26 years old. The Educational Center and district satellite rooms serve numerous students from all nine local school districts.
Emphasis at the Educational Center includes fostering independence, developing daily living skills, and facilitating community interaction through the development of job skills, pro-social behaviors, communication skills, academic skills, and leisure-time activities.
Students at MCEC do not attain formal graduation, but rather achieve education program completion. Students may achieve program completion upon reaching the maximum special education program age of 26 or earlier depending upon individual need and ability.
If a student leaves the MCEC prior to reaching the maximum program age of 26 and enters another education program or adult service program, he/she is not considered a dropout.
