More about Montclair State - Continuing Environmental Education for Professionals

Continuing Education for Environmental Professionals (CEEP) is an initiative of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) at Montclair State University. Designed to meet the demand for environmental continuing education courses in northern New Jersey, CSAM will be offering Continuing Education credit-bearing courses for LSRPs, environmental attorneys as well as an array of programs designed for the larger environmental community. Montclair State University (MSU) is the state’s second largest public higher education institution with over 18,500 undergraduate and graduate students. The University’s six schools and colleges offer more than 250 majors, minors and concentrations.

Due to its location in the nation’s largest urban ecosystem, the University's College of Science and Mathematics has long played a pivotal role in environmental education and research aimed at mitigating environmental damage resulting from New Jersey’s legacy industrialization.

MSU/CSAM has unique expertise in environmental management, sustainability studies, research and education and is a leading provider of highly qualified professionals and scientists to New Jersey’s environmental-related agencies and private sector environmental engineering and management firms.

The College’s broad array of education offerings include New Jersey’s only Ph.D. in Environmental Management, plus Masters Degrees in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Geo-Science, Marine and Coastal Science, and Sustainability Science; and certificate programs in Water Resource Management, Geographic Information Science and Environmental Forensics. In support of these and numerous other academic programs, the College houses over 50 teaching, research and incubator labs outfitted for biology, chemistry, geology, geochemistry, hydrology, ecology, microbiology, molecular biology, marine and aquatic biology, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. Through a distinctive tradition of core-discipline excellence, interdisciplinary collaborations and productive partnerships, CSAM takes an active role in creating solutions to New Jersey’s environmental issues. Beyond its traditional academic programs, CSAM is home to nine centers and institutes including the Institute for Sustainability Studies, Sokol Institute for Pharmaceutical Life Sciences, the New Jersey School of Conservation, the Passaic River Institute, and the Center for Environmental Management and Analysis (CEMA).

Development of a formal Continuing Environmental Education program is a natural extension of the College’s environmental science expertise and consistent with the College’s strategic plan.
