Trinity Church began as the Community Church 150+ years ago in 1869 when the Methodist Episcopal Society was organized in Montello. Our first church building was constructed on land offered by George Henry Dartt. Building began in 1873 and was completed in 1875. Major remodeling in the 1920s literally created a chancel, kitchen, bathrooms, and fellowship hall.
By the 1980s a Long Range Planning Committee concluded we had outgrown the old facility, and we should create a Building Committee to plan for the future. After much study, planning and a capital funding campaign, a new church was constructed at the present location during 1984. The old church was deconsecrated and the new church put into use on November 11, 1984. The official consecration ceremony was on June 9, 1985.
Just as the old church saw its share of church suppers, ice cream socials, bake sales, etc., the current building has hosted many Harvest Dinners (begun under Rev. Constance Bradshaw's tenure at the old site), soup and sandwich events, spaghetti suppers, brunches, etc.
Financing for some amenities in this building was aided by several Pizza sales held in the 1980s. United Methodists have always appreciated good fellowship, and part of that fellowship more often than not involves good food!
