The Monterey Community Center will be "a place to go" for all ages, for a wide variety of artistic, cultural, educational and social activities.

It will be a warm and welcoming gathering place used by citizens for formal and informal meetings, and for events scheduled by the Cultural Council, the Parks Commission, the Historical Society, the Library, the Council on Aging, the School Board, and so on.

The open land south of the houseThe 185 year old Wilson/McLaughlin House and its surrounding 28.6 acres were offered to the Town of Monterey by longtime resident Edith L. Wilson. In 1996 the Town voted to accept Edith's gift and pledged to renew the historic farmhouse structure for community use. The remaining land in the parcel is maintained for park and recreational purposes.

The centralized location with easily accessible and ample parking will make the spot ideal for the Center. And the additional acreage, part open and part wooded, will serve the Town's growing needs for recreational and additional municipal facilities.
