THE MONTESSORI METHOD

All activities are learned through a multi sensory approach. Every child has the opportunity to learn new concepts by using all of their senses. The classroom is divided into five areas --

• Practical Life: This area includes such activities as pouring, spooning, & sorting. These everyday activities provide your child with the necessary skills to develop their fine motor skills and learn pre-writing & pre-reading skills.

• Sensorial: This area allows your child to learn through all five senses; sight, tough, smell, hearing, and taste. This process helps your child to become aware of the tiniest details while sharpening all their senses.

• Language: In this area your child learns the phonetic sound of the alphabet. Your child is then introduced with sandpaper letters which allows them to not only see & feel, but hear the sound each letter makes.

• Math: In the math area your child will begin learning math’s concrete concepts and then progress to more abstract principals. Your child will learn quantity by touching and grasping objects in order to feel weight, etc.

• Geography: This area introduces your child to both a globe & maps. Your child will learn the continents, landmasses, & oceans.

Through this process:
• Children learn to become independent thinkers.
• Children learn respect for their parents, teachers, & piers.
• Children learn self-confidence & self motivation.
• Children learn to be self-directed & organized .
• Children learn patience & concentration.
• Children participate in hands-on activities in a multi-sensory setting.
• Children experience the joy of learning.




OUR HISTORY

Some 40 years ago Mr. & Mrs. Torello founded the Montessori Academy of New Jersey. They watched their life-long dream of creating a school filled with an educational curriculum, love, and kindness towards all children become a reality. Alma Torello, with her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education, and Rudy Torello, a builder/developer with an MBA in Business Administration embarked on this journey armed with the knowledge they had accumulated over the years. Through research, observation, and attention to detail, their education of the Montessori philosophy was clarified. Our Academy was a pioneering school, in that it was the first in it's area to offer both the Montessori Teaching Method and the traditional approach to education.
