More about Moore Norman Technology Center

Established in 1972, Moore Norman Technology Center is viewed as one of the nation's premiere educational training institutions within Oklahoma's globally-recognized CareerTech System. Serving the communities of Norman, Moore and south Oklahoma City, MNTC provides high school and adult students a quality and affordable technical career education. MNTC also provides business and industry training and certification to help area companies shore up their workforce and achieve their business goals.

MNTC has earned the Oklahoma Association of Technology Center’s Gold Star School Award numerous times, most recently during the 2012-2013 school year. This annual application-based award recognizes technology centers that have met rigid and demanding criteria and demonstrated exemplary opportunities designed to meet a broad spectrum of community needs.

One of two MNTC campuses, the Franklin Road campus sits conveniently between the communities of Moore and Norman. The campus offers six buildings, totaling 323,500 square feet, which feature classrooms, learning labs, industry-standard equipment, and meeting and conference space.

A tour of the Franklin Road campus will give visitors an inside look at the various facilities where MNTC students experience hands-on, real-world learning.

Buildings include the health education center which boasts labs, classrooms and a library dedicated to health-related subjects; the industry training center, where students learn technical trades like welding, auto collision repair, precision machining, etc.; the technical training center where carpentry, HVAC, and electrical engineering students learn their occupation individually and then cooperatively as they work together to construct a fully finished house, complete with appliances and flooring. Each year the completed house is auctioned off and moved off the MNTC property to a location designated by the auction winner.

In late 2012, MNTC opened its state-of-the-art IT building. Within its 61,000-square-foot space, the IT building holds two fully-functioning soundstages, cutting-edge editing bays and sound booths for digital video production (DVP) students, as well as Apple® computers in multiple classrooms. DVP, graphic design and web design students share a creativity-inspiring break area complete with white boards, comfortable seating, subdued lighting and space to spread out and explore ideas. Computer and business-minded students learn the ins and outs of computer networking, programming, database administration, legal office services as well as computer and networking repair. On the second floor, pre-engineering students create and problem-solve in classrooms large enough to house the skilled robots they dream up and build.

The Franklin Road campus is enhanced with a scenic pond and small fountains used for water retention. The outdoor grounds are not only a peaceful retreat for students and staff, but are also an educational resource for Service Careers students learning about landscape maintenance and care.
