Moore's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
History (1891-Present)
Moore's Chapel M.B. Church was founded 1891 by the late Rev. Eli Moore. Later in the 1890's two members was added to the union of this church, the late W.D. Moore and Ella Moore. Services were held every 2nd and 4th Sunday. Moore's Chapel was the first church built in the community of Bonnerton.
Sis. Churchie C. Moore, wife of the late W.D. Moore, presented her membership to Moore's Chapel after the conversion of her husband. After a few years, this building homes until they were permitted to rebuild the church.
W.D. Moore purchased a plot of land from S.J. Moore, which he built another church by the assistance of James and Maywt Stevenson and George A. Moore under the leadership of Rev. W.D. Moore, Several members were united under which made a total of 55. Rev. W.D. Moore passed away in 1912 then Rev. R.L. Edward pastored until his death in 1914.
The next pastor was Rev. Joseph Nay of Greenville. He pastored Moore's Chapel until his death in 1921. Rev. James Harris pastored 1922 to 1932. Rev. E. N. Staton was elevated and served until 1946. Rev William H. Moore was elected at the time and served until 1961. Under the leadership of Rev W.H. Moore, the late Rev. Z.L Bryant and Rev. Snowden Tuten were called as "Son Preachers". Rev. James Bernard Crandol of Greenville was elected in 1961 as pastor. The late Rev. Clifford O. Moore, son of the late Rev. William H. Moore, was known as the "Son Preacher" and Youth Pastor, Under Rev. James B. Crandol.
Youth Services were held every 3rd Sunday afternoon with Rev. C. O. Moore as youth pastor and Sis. Florida Moore as youth advisor and leader. After the death of Rev. C. O. Moore, Sis Florida Moore carried on the Youth Day Service every 3rd Sunday until her health would no longer permit her to and the 3rd Sunday services was discontinued. Mother Florida Moore assisted as overseer of the Youth to Sis Corena Moore & Mother Sandra Moore until her death, February 15,2009.
Rev. John K. Pond was called to preach in October 1997, under Dr. J. B. Crandol. Rev. Pond served as the Youth leader and with the assistance of his wife, Minister Monica Pond. In October 1998, he was ordained and served as assistance until he was called to Pastor in January 2002.
The late Mother Sarah B. Moore began working with the youth after returning home from New York. In 1994, she began the JBC Youth Choir and served as their leader until her death in 2004. The late Mother Sarah B. Moore was well know for always giving 50 cent pieces every Christmas to all the youth.
Rev. Clinton Anderson Jr. begins assisting Moore's Chapel under the guidance and leadership of Dr. J.B. Crandol in October 2004, due to health reasons and hospitalization of the pastor. Rev. C. Anderson Jr. is still assisting faithful every 4th Sunday.
On Sunday, May 28, 2006, Trustees, Bro. Ivory W. Moore Sr. and Bro. Daniel L. Moore, was elevated and ordained as Deacons.
On Saturday, October 28, 2006, Dr. James B. Crandol died after serving 45 years of pastoring.
Rev. Clinton Anderson continued to serve as Sheperd of the Moore's Chapel Church until January 25, 2009, when he was installed as pastor. On Sunday, July 25, 2010 Minister Lucy Watts joined the Moore's Chapel M.B. Church family as Associated Pastor.
