We offer basic and advanced obedience, off-leash, behavior modification and aggression detox, and personal and sport protection training in both group classes and private lessons. Unlike most trainers in the Concord NH area who received their "education" and "certification" online, Motivated K9 owner and head trainer, Joe Castagno IV, lived and graduated from National K9 School for Dog Trainers in Ohio in 2010. This extensive hands-on training allowed him to get much more "real world" experience with dogs from some of the best trainers in the dog world. Joe also is one of the only trainers in the area who specializes in aggressive dogs. Many local trainers as well as the SPCA will tell owners their aggressive dogs need to be put down because they refuse to use any other training method or tool other than "purely positive". This unfortunately means death for a lot of dogs. Fortunately we have been able to meet with those dogs and save them. We are willing to to use any and all training methods, styles techniques and tools at our disposal to help a dog. No dog needs to die unnecessarily. Joe starts training at 8 weeks and in the beginning with all dogs he uses a food/treat reward-based approach called a "verbal marking system". It is very similar to "clicker" training, but uses your voice and words to mark a behavior instead of a click. He focuses on building a positive trusting relationship between you and your dog, this is the foundation of all training. Every lesson is education-based; essentially, he trains you to train your dog because in the end, you are the owner and your dog needs to listen to you, not just the trainer. After that strong foundation is built, then we move on to other training styles if necessary. Not every breed is the same, and not every dog in that breed is the same therefore we don't try to box every client into a "one-size-fits-all" approach or package. Some dogs learn differently, just like people learn differently. Some dogs have very different and distinct personalities. Some dogs have very high energy levels, while others are much more calm. And just like the dogs, all owners are different. Your needs and expectations as well as your lifestyle and schedule are different and all these factors go into deciding which approach is appropriate for both of you.
