Rev. Dr. George E. McRae

From his humble beginnings in Palatka, Florida to Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church and the world, Rev. McRae has proven to be a humble servant of God. He received his high school diploma from Central Academy High School in Palatka, Florida; Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bethune-Cookman, Daytona Beach, Florida; Master of Divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgina; and the Doctor of Ministry Degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, Atlanta, Georgina. His doctoral dissertation is entitled, The Triangle of Death in the African American Community: Drugs, Prison, and HIV/AIDS. His obedience to his calling has taken him to Germany, South Africa, and West Africa where he saw first-hand the Gate of No Return. He has also visited Israel, Egypt, England, France, all over the Virgin Island, North Korea, and South Korea, and many places in the United States to preach and teach the word. Dr. George E. McRae’s humanitarian services to the Miami-Dade community specifically, and his services to mankind in so many other places are proof positive of the kind of man he is, the help he gives, and the spirit of love he exemplifies. His humanitarian spirit is evidence in his work with HIV/AIDS patients. At Jackson Memorial Hospital, he ministers to these patients, and he often has the awesome task of rendering the last rites to those that are dying. He does this on a regular basis. When others were shunning people infected with HIV/AIDS ministry at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church so that these victims would have a place to come for comfort, understanding, and acceptance. Because Rev. McRae understands that most of the people infected with the virus had other problems, which contributed to their condition, a drug/alcohol abuse ministry was formed. Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at the church on a regular basis to offer additional support to the needy. The HIV/AIDS ministry is not the only ministry at Mt. Tabor. Prison, Feeding, Shoebox, Job, Sick and Shut-In are ministries that were established under the guidance of Rev. McRae. All of these ministries serve those who are less fortunate or suffering losses. If he sees the need for others, he will definitely open his heart and begin other ministries. His leadership as pastor of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church is second to none. He truly loves people and shows this on a daily basis. He will feed the needy out of his pocket and asks nothing in return. One of the most touching things to witness is how he takes people who come to the front of the church on Sunday morning and embrace them in his loving arms; they may be infected with the virus or right off the street. It does not matter. He immediately tells them to hold their heads up and be proud in spite of what they are going through at this moment. He always says that all people need to know there is a church where they can come find love and compassion. He also reaches out to his membership. He travels miles to offer support to his members when they lose family members. If invited, he shows up to retirement parties, job recognitions, and other events honoring the members of his church. Miami-Dade County Commissioners saw fit to rename a part of 17th Avenue in his honor, mainly because of his outstanding service to the community. He is the former president of the Florida Baptist Convention, an affiliate of the National Baptist Convention. Rev McRae is the recipient of The Miami Herald Charles Whited Spirit Excellence Award. His other honors includes the Certificate of Commendation from Katherine Fernandez-Rundle, State Attorney of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida; page one feature story in the February 2002 issue of the Wall Street Journal; September 2002 Edition of Savoy Magazine, feature story, and in 200, Representative Fredricka S. Wilson honored him for being a "Pioneer in the Education of the Fight against HIV/AIDS in the Black Community." Prior to his call to Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, Miami, Florida, Rev. McRae has been the shepherd to the congregations at New Mount Zion Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church in Palatka, Florida, and Shiloh Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, Florida. He has served as the Dean of the Florida Baptist Congress of Christian Education; Past President Volusia County NAACP; Board Members; Youth Vision, Helen Total Day Care Center, Children and Parents Society (CAPS); and Florida Health Care. He holds memberships in Beauty Lodge No. 35; F & M; SCLC; PUSH; Miami Youth for Christ Association; Dade County Ministries Association and New Birth Corporation. His lectures has taken him to the following sites: Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ; Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach, Florida; Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia; Lakeland Theological Seminary, Lakeland, Florida; Spruce Creek High School, Port Orange, Florida; Florida AIDS Conference, Orlando, Florida; and Florida Health Care, Miami, Florida. Rev. McRae has been awarded ten proclamations from former Congresswoman, Carrie P. Meek, six proclamations from Congresswoman Kendrick B. Meek, four proclamations from Representative Fredricka S. Wilson, and one proclamation from William Jefferson Clinton, 42nd President of the United States of America. He has been a humble servant of God for fifty years. He is married to the former Mary Wilford and is the father of seven adult children. He is also a grandfather to his loving grandchildren. May the work he has done speak for him.
