Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church

Our inception came about in 1901 by the power and light of the Holy Spirit entering into the spiritual minds of a group of members that branched out from the First Baptist Church of Columbia, Tennessee.

They truly believed that with the Power of Prayer, Faith, Hope, Love and Dedication, they could encourage the lost to come to Christ. They pursued their dreams by having prayer service once a week in their homes. Our heavenly Father moved in the heart of Sister Harriett Alexander, who was so inspired with their belief, that she granted them permission to use one of her houses for prayer and preaching services.

The first church was established in 1906; the second in 1923, and the current structure was erected in 1968.

Mt. Vernon strives to live up to its motto and be: "A church with a heart that is the heart of its people."
