Mu Sool Won specializes in Traditional Korean Martial Arts and Self Defense. Our System incompasses the full spectrum of asian martial arts techniques and weapons. We use hand and foot techniques as well as strikes and kicks, pressure point attacks, grappling and joint locks as well as throws, archery, staff, sword and much more. We also work with "Ki" or vital energy building, meditation and conditioning exercises to keep the body supple and moving with ease. Children, family and adult classes are available.


History

Established in 2011

Mu Sool Won of Eureka was established in 2011 under the previous name of Kaizen Family Martial Arts Center. It was later decided to rename our school Mu Sool Won of Eureka to let the public know what art we teach. We also incorporated the Mu Sool Won logo on the front of the building for everyone to see with pride. Before settling in Eureka, Mr. Atherton started teaching from his home in 2008/9 as well as teaching the PHYED 143-Self Defense Program at Illinois Central College.
Mu Sool chose Eureka as its home due to the pleasant feel of the community. The rich history of Eureka and it's Ronald Reagan College brings a wonderful feel. Mr. Atherton also has family ties to the town which brings hope that his family martial arts center will also find its home here in Eureka!


Meet the Business Owner: Daniel A.


Instructor Daniel Atherton has studied many martial arts starting at the age of 5 in karate. He started training in the Korean martial arts in his early teens starting with tae kwon do, hapkido and moo duk kwan. Over many years of time, Jo Kyo Nim studied Filipino martial arts such as kali and Modern Arnis, Okinawan Ryu Kyu Kempo, Mix Martial Arts and other styles of combatives and arts similar to krav maga and other Israeli systems taught locally. He has earned black belts and other ranks in several arts such as tae kwon do, Budo Taijutsu, Dillman's Ryu Kyu Kempo (kyusho jitsu pressure points theory), kuksoolwon tm and musoolwon tm. He has studied and trained with many wonderful high ranking martial artists, masters, and grand masters in the local area, as well as correctional officers, police officers and even with military personnel. With his highly intuitive interest in learning as much as possible and making sure it is usable he decided to join Mu Sool Won tm and open the first Mu Sool Won school in Illinois!
