Hot Rod Restoration Shop to Austin

Shop Soon to Become a Community Hub for Custom Car Enthusiasts

AUSTIN, Texas – March 10, 2011 – There’s a new touch of classic hot rod style coming to Austin just in time for the 10th Annual Lonestar Rod & Kustom Roundup. Murpho’s Customs and Rods is converting a service station built in 1941 at 1700 Fortview Road into the center of the Austin custom car scene.

“Our shop is bringing the California hot rod style to the Lone Star State,” said Murph, owner of Murpho’s Customs and Rods. “We are excited about colliding two passions to make a really amazing location.”

After 25 years in the California classic car scene, Murph is bringing his Golden State style of chops to Austin. His cars have been recognized and received awards at shows and in magazines all over the world. His unique style and humbleness will be a great addition to the Austin hot rod scene.

“We’ve got a little bit of everything sitting in the shop right now,” Murph said. “We’re restoring some cars for shop projects and have some of our favorite completes here to check out. This is my true passion and I wanted to have a location that I could share that interest with everyone.”

Murpho’s Customs and Rods is designed to be a community place for hot rod aficionados to hang out and enjoy the scene. They’ve renovated the shop, and you might have even noticed the large bearded lady going up on the front of the location. The retail side of the shop has vintage items, a slew of lifestyle apparel for men, women and kids, a lounge with a pool table and a whole collection of hot rod related accessories.

“We really want our place to be the spot for fans of classic cars and anyone just interested in finding out more to come, hang and fuse,” Murph said. “We want Murpho’s Customs and Rods to be the true center of the custom car scene in Austin.”

Murpho’s Customs and Rods is opening next week and will have an official grand opening during the 10th Annual Lonestar Rod & Kustom Roundup along with huge bash on April 2nd to welcome the community to some cars, beer, hot dogs, music, and a good time.
