Murray High School (Virginia)

Murray High School is a public charter school located just south of Charlottesville, Virginia. It is a part of Albemarle County Public Schools.It was the first public "Glasser Quality" High School ever. Murray High School is built on the fundamentals of Choice Theory. Choice Theory provides the theoretical grounding for the Glasser Quality School Model. Drawing upon the principles espoused by W. Edwards Deming in the business sector, this approach emphasizes an end to coercion in the classroom and the replacement of boss management with lead management. In a Glasser Quality School, everyone is empowered, respected, and a contributing member of the community. Students are encouraged to share their talents and expertise.The mission of Murray High School is to prepare students to be successful in their continuing education, to create positive learning habits and work habits, to prepare students to be successful in their careers, to teach students to be responsible and informed citizens, to teach students to communicate effectively, and to create a basis for a desire for lifelong learning. In 2014, the school was involved in a scandal as it requested public donations due to insufficient funds.Murray High school strives to create a community of empowered learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
