More about Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge

Approximately 8,000 acres of wetlands, forests, and grasslands managed for wildlife. Open every day one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset (hours listed above are for Visitor Center). Staffed Visitor Center with interpretive exhibits, auditorium, and bird-viewing area is open every day. Approximately 9 miles of roads open for wildlife observation includes a four-mile Auto Tour Route. A short interpretive walking trail next to the Visitor Center is wheelchair accessible. Four hiking trails are each approximately one mile in length. Two observation decks are located on marshes/lakes. Certain areas of the refuge are open to fishing and certain kinds of hunting (see refuge brochures for species and times). Historic log cabin and barn are maintained by the refuge Friends Group, the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society. Muscatatuck is a great place for observing, photographing, and learning about wildlife, and a wonderful place to hunt and fish. Muscatatuck also manages the Indiana Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest each year, a "conservation through art" environmental education activity for students in grades K-12.
