My Reading Resources

As a child, I loved reading. I think I read every book on the shelves of our small public library. I read novels, nonfiction, and biographies – even the biographies of sports stars whenI had no interest in sports! And I believe I gained something from every book I read. As a teacher, I wanted to nurture the love of reading in my students. My wish for them was to devour books and look forward to reading as much as I did. But I was frustrated with not having the materials I needed to teach. I wanted my students to be able to choose their ownbooks as much as possible, but at the same time, I had to be able to somewhat guide them through each and every book with supporting materials that helped them understand and learn new vocabulary and to discuss the characters, conflict, and its resolution. With nonfiction, I wanted them to learn facts about a wide variety of subjects, but I also wanted them to make connections between what they learned to their own lives. And then there was the fact that I had to be able to record grades for their work and to show their progress. My mission now is creating curriculum materials for other teachers and home-schoolers to use. On my blog, I write about the books I am reading so readers can learn more about a book to make sure it is a good fit for their purposes and for their students. I love reading and enjoy all kinds of books, which you will see reflected in My Reading Resources’ book choices. When my kids were small, we enjoyed sharing books together. I enjoy it now with my grandson. I’m happy to say that I’m a life-long reader!
