At Naomi's House we understand that for reasons due to mental health, substance use and physical health issues, there are chronically homeless women who do not desire long-term rehabilitative services at this time and have difficulty accessing mainstream services. For these women a low-demand, harm reduction program model can begin to assist them in overcoming their issues. We recognize that following long-term stays on the streets, trust is a big issue with these women. Prior to any substantive work on their issues, the women need to come to feel that there is a trusting, nonjudgmental relationship between them and staff. Each night, staff will work with each woman fostering this relationship before positive life changing work begins.
