Implementation of the Circles of Care (COC) grant project - funding through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA):
Launched in 1998, COC was designed to give tribes and urban Indian organizations a three-year grant to identify and analyze community needs systematically. The grant provides funding to develop culturally appropriate strategies that can be put into action effectively to serve young AI/AN people with serious behavioral health challenges. Notably, the families and communities of the AI/AN youth are brought in to participate in these processes – cultural appropriateness.
