Natural Burial New Mexico

La Puerta Natural Burial Ground provides low cost, environmentally sound, alternative burial sites for families in New Mexico.

A natural (green) burial is a traditional burial and is sanctioned by state statutes. The washed body is returned to the earth wrapped in an organic blanket or burial shroud or is placed in a pine casket without the use of embalming chemicals.

The burial site is recorded with GPS coordinates, the surface is restored, and a native plant or stone may commemorate the site.

Funeral and memorial services may be held as customary in one’s church, synagogue, mosque, or temple. Families may wish to choose home funerals and memorials or graveside services.

Families have the legal option to prepare a loved one's body for natural burial as well as transport the body to the burial site. La Puerta staff can provide education and guidance.
The use of a traditional funeral home that agrees to follow the guidelines of La Puerta Natural Burial Ground is also an option.

La Puerta Natural Burial has dedicated a separate section of the natural burial site for pets; assuring respectful, affordable, and environmentally-sound burial for all creatures.
