NC State's Department of Nuclear Engineering is the 1st department to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in nuclear engineering. We are also the 1st to operate a non-governmental research reactor.

Research foci include fission reactor engineering, radiation detection & applications, plasma science and engineering, nuclear materials and nuclear computational science.

Degrees offered include --
BS in nuclear engineering
MS in nuclear engineering (thesis)
MNE, master of nuclear engineering
MNE-B option, distance education
PhD in nuclear engineering

Programs, centers and consortia include --
Nuclear Reactor Program (1 MW research reactor & facilities), Consortium of Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors (CASL), Consortium of Non-Proliferation Enabling Capacities (CNEC), Center for Engineering Applications of Radioisotopes (CEAR).
