NE Conaway Peanuts

Steven Conaway’s journey into entrepreneurship happened basically by accident. After earning his degree in Public Relations from Long Beach State, he thought he’d live out his life working a regular 9-5 like his father and his grandfather before him. And so, after graduation and landing his 1st job, he was doing just what he’d always dreamed, working that proverbial 9-5!

Later though, after much prodding from his boss, and being young and industrious person that he was Steven finally accepted a part-time position on the side selling peanuts. And guess what…HE LIKED IT! It was then that a new dream emerged.

It took many years, 25 to be exact, of scrimping and saving, saving and scrimping, pitching pennies, nickels and dimes into a big jar, recycling cans and bottles, and taking odd jobs here and there until he had enough. When he felt ready, Steven purchased a truck, and then a roaster and finally his warming oven and other items that would make his product stand out. After testing it on family and friends he decided it was ready and he’d call this new venture NE Conaway Peanuts. And the rest, as they say, is history.

His red-and-white truck is located on the center of the 3800 block of Crenshaw Blvd. It quickly draws a crowd and fills the air with the aroma of roasting peanuts. It’s not unusual to see customers walking down Crenshaw with a fat, brown, paper bag in hand. Hot-roasted peanuts on Crenshaw seem to be the order of the day.

Originally from Oxnard, CA, Steven arrived on Los Angeles’ Crenshaw Blvd. in September of 2011. If asked why people LOVE his products, which include almonds, pistachios, walnuts and a variety of other nuts and other snacks, he’ll tell you with a big smile, “I would like to know the answer to that myself.” But, he readily admits that he’s happy people do.

NE Conaway Peanuts gets many, many customers daily from all walks of life…and there’s always room for more. But don’t fret. He has plenty of products and thanks his local and not so local clientele for their continued business. His Public Relations skills are always in play and he says, “I want to thank you for being my customer, I hope you keep coming—I hope you keep liking them.”
