More about New Hope Conductive Learning Center, Inc.

New Hope Conductive Learning Center, Inc. is located in Sterling, Ohio in Wayne County, currently offering programs for children with motor disabilities, such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, different types of demyelinating disease…etc. It is opening doors in the beginning of the 2015-2016 School Year in mid-September.
The New Hope CLC is started by parents, families and friends who saw the need and wanted to make it possible for local families to find real answers and solution to help children achieve their optimal physical, cognitive and social independence through the principles of Conductive Education (CE).

Conductive Education is a comprehensive and holistic educational program with a goal to meet the unique physical, cognitive and socio-emotional needs of individuals with motor disabilities that originate from neurological disorders. It is developed by a Hungarian physician, Dr. Andras Peto in the 1940s.
CE accepts the premise that despite of its injury, the nervous system is still capable of forming new pathways or connections to direct proper functions, thus learning. It believes that living with motor disability is not a medical condition requiring treatment, but rather a problem of learning requiring education.

Why “Conductive”?
CE is based on the idea that the habilitation/rehabilitation of individuals can be successful through a guided (conductive) learning process.
The goal of CE is to enable each person to gain potential independence in order to become an active and functional participant member in the given society.

HOW DOES CE WORK?
Holistic approach: CE focuses on the entire person.
One complex and comprehensive program: integrating all areas of life through specifically created daily routines and task series.
Group setting: human development occurs through social interactions, thus the most effective learning environment is in group.
Motivation: the most effective and long-term learning can come from curiosity and the desire to reach a goal that is set by the individual.

Active participation: CE requires a higher level of expectation of the individuals to be actively involved in reaching their goals.
