More about New Hope United Methodist Church

Our History
The history of New Hope began in 1887. The founders of this great church were Patty Clark, Samuel Smith, Joe Perkins, Bishop Perkins and members of the McElroy family.

The first church was located about 4/10 of a mile down the road from the present one. The little log church was on the property of the Rowe family. The church consisted merely of a sanctuary.

In 1919 the members of New Hope desired to build their church on its own land. A group called the “willing workers” raised $20 by paying dues and bought the land for the church from Bishop Perkins. A new frame church was constructed.

By 1952 the member again felt the need for a new church. This new church consisted of a sanctuary, pastor’s study and a choir room, which was also used as a church school classroom. In 1975 a kitchen/recreation area and restrooms were added.

New Hope became a United Methodist Church in 1972. As a result New Hope became a member of the Gadsden District of the North Alabama Conference.

In 1992 under the pastoral leadership of Rev. J. N. Moody our current church was built. The layout of the building was under the architectural leadership of a former member Rev. Pasty Glover.

Through the years members of New Hope have worked to complete many renovations both inside and outside. Some of the renovations include new pews, new roof, corner stone, an outside storage building and a church sign.

By the grace of God on October 10, 2004 the church note was paid in full. A note burning took place October 23, 2005.
