NSHBC has just started a new beginning. We have Richard fpr McKeehan as our new Pastor and we are excited about our future. If you do not have a home church we welcome you. If you are or have ever been a member or just a friend of a member, we welcome comments and pictures to this page. NSHBC is dedicated to serving a risen Savior. We have Sunday Morning services , starting at 10:00 am for Sunday School , with choir and church starting around 10:50 to about 12:00, depending on how God moves. The first Wednesday is our MEET 'N' EAT night in the fellowship hall, finger foods and fellowship.6:30 pm to about 7:30 PM. We have business meeting Quarterly with Our Adult Bible Study, hosted by Ivan Riden 2 Wednesday nights a month. It's very informal, always snacks and bring pen and paper for notes. We have discussion time and just enjoy studying God's word. This is 6:30Pm to about 7:30 PM. The 5th Wednesday's are open for what ever we feel God wants for that night.
These notes about New Shepherd Hill Church were given to me by a friend of mine. This is about the church from 1942 to 1968. ENJOY:
SOME NEW SHEPHERD HILL BAPTIST CHURCH HISTORY, WRITTEN OCTOBER 20,1968
New Shepherd Hill Baptist Church was organized in 1942 in the old Monger Home. Bob Williamson gave the ground for the church. Bob Monger gave the trees for lumber for the foundation. Those who helped to cut the tees were Forrest Sutton, Bob Monger, Ernest Smith, & Clifford Ownsby.
The first conference was held in June, 1942 and was called to order by Clifford Ownsby. Ordaining council consisted of Bill Carrol, Rosco Davis and Bill Smith.
The doors were opened for new members. Those who joined were as follows: Bob Monger, Minnie Monger, Ernest Smith, and Tennie Smith. The first Pastor was Brother Clifford Ownsby. Church Clerk was Melvin Henry. Pianist was Mrs. Lucy Everett. Choir Leader was Ira Bishop.
In August, 1944, Melvin Henry resigned as Church Clerk and Mrs. H.C. Burns was appointed Church Clerk. In 1944 it was brought before the church to get paint for painting the church. Those appointed to get the paint were Roy Green, Bob Monger, Jess Dunning and Forrest Sutton. There had to be a flue built for a heater and there was only $27.55 in the church treasury. The church voted to take the money and fix it. Brother H.C. Burns was Pastor at this time. J.A. Davis purchased a heater for the church. The first superintendent for Sunday School was Ernest Smith; Secretary Eunice Holder. Brother Robert Davis agreed to get brick and cement and build a stove flue. It was voted by the church to buy two tons of coal.
In 1943, it was voted by the church to get song books. Brother Robert Davis agreed to get them for the church and it was also voted to get some wood to burn in the heater.
A service flag was bought for the church in 1943. The church voted to pay a janitor $2.00 in the winter months and $1.00 in the summer. Forrest was the first janitor. At this time we were using coal oil lamps. Jess Dunning checked about getting electricity and the Power board told him it would be available in the near future. Brother Roberts was appointed to haul a load of slabs for kindling.
There was a corner stone laid under the south corner of the church. The church made a motion to get a church sign and Forrest Sutton, Jess Dunning and Mac Bettis were appointed to do this. In 1949 it was voted by the church that Brother J.C.Lee put the church deed on record.
Brother Lloyd Pickett was elected Pastor in 1949. In 1947 on November 9th, the church voted to get a steeple for the church and a committee appointed to do this consisted of J.B.Roberts,Jess Dunning.
On April 11, 1948, Brother Carl Gamble was elected Pastor. The church took the Lord’s supper on the first Sunday night in each month.
May 22, 1949, Robert Sutton made a motion that the door steps be fixed. Ernest Sutton made a motion that the Sunday School Rooms be painted. In 1949 there was a church bus which ran morning and night. O.G.Roberts drove the bus. There was a fence built. Jess Dunning made a motion to get locust posts for the fence.
In 1950 Brother James Tate was elected Pastor of the church. A motion was made to set aside $5.00 per week for a building fund.
In 1952 Brother Ernest Sutton was elected Sunday School Superintendent. Kenneth Wolfe was assistant.
In 1953 Brother Ira Bishop was licensed for the Ministry. In 1953 the first Bible School was held. Ella May Bishop was the Principal and Anna Bell Wolfe was appointed to help her. On August 5, 1953, Cotton Roberts made a motion that the church buy 25 new Bibles to be used in the church. Kenneth Wolfe was elected Superintendent of Sunday School, LeRoy Bowman Assistant. Choir Leader Cotton Roberts and Pianist Janie Posey.
September 8, 1954, Brother Arthell Posey was licensed to preach. Connie Lee was pianist in 1954. There was by this time $839.00 in the building fund. In 1955 there were two collection plates bought. In 1955 Brother Jessie Carl Nolen was elected Pastor. In 1957 Brother Rosco Davis was Pastor of the Church. There was a finance committee appointed in 1957, consisting of Clyde Smith, John Wolfe, Son Simmons, And Cotton Roberts. Brother Rosco was paid $70.00 per week. In 1959 we got new benches for the church. The first funeral in the church was the baby of Mr. & Mrs. Beacher Holland. The first Wedding was Kenneth Wolfe and Anna Bell Roy. This was in 1952. Ira Bishop and Ella May Posey were married in the church in 1953. In 1961 Jimmy Simmons was licensed to preach.
Between 1956-57, our new Church was finished. Rev. Roscoe Davis began as Pastor in the new church. Jackie Fay Davis and Louise Roberts, Pianists. Jackie Fay Davis and Marshall Young were married in the new church. Brenda Moon & Bill Honden were married in the new church. Connie Lee and Jimmy McDaniel were married in the new church. Carolyn Lee was Pianist and Marcheta Morrow Organist and Diane Layne was Assistant. Wanda Morrow and LeRoy Hindmon were married in the new church and Diane Layne and Eugene Clift were also married in the new church.
Ed Ballew pastored the church for nine months, then Douglas Brandon for one year and six months. Between Brandon , supply Pastor Rev. Buddy Lewis. Rev. Jim Nabors was elected Pastor. Rev. Ira Bishop is now supply Pastor. Deacon Up to date list is J.B. Roberts, Chairman of the Deacon Board, John Wolfe, Active Deacon, Clifford Davis , Active deacon, Terry Bryant is church clerk and Dan Friddell Treasurer.
This brings the church history up to date this 14th day of the 10th month of the year 1968.
