The community garden site was formerly Growing Green MiniFarm, a collaborative project of two local nonprofits. MRCI Worksource, provider of jobs for adults with disabilities, and Putting Green, an environmental learning center, joined forces in 2007 and started the Growing Green CSA (community supported agriculture).
In 2012, it was decided due to the cost of labor, it was no longer economically feasible to operate the CSA. This decision created an opportunity for a new venture to emerge - the New Ulm Community Garden, capitalizing on the infrastructure in place from the Growing Green project.
